25 June 2015. Google has announced it will convert a former coal-burning power plant in the US state of Alabama into a data centre using renewable energy. It will be the first Google data centre built on the site of a former coal-burning power plant. Data centres need a lot of infrastructure to run 24/7, and there's a lot of potential in redeveloping large industrial sites like former coal power plants.
