27 June 2014. El Hierro Island, in the Spanish Canary Islands, is a little island with 10,000 inhabitants. Today open in the island a pumped storage scheme fueled at last by wind energy. This technological combination storages energy generated by wind turbines in a reservoir lake with a hydro turbine that supplies energy when is required.

This interesting system makes El Hierro island free from oil pollution and crude oil dependency. Today El Hierro becomes 100% renewable energy fueled for electricity generation.
