26 August 2017. The plant and its 2,700 megawatts of power -- one megawatt is enough to power 200 homes on a hot Texas day -- is expected to remain operational until winds reach a sustained 73 mph. But once winds reach those speeds, the plant will have to shut down, according to Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations. Currently, the forecast shows sustained wind of 40 mph around the plant.
